TASTY TOOVAR DAL
What’s for lunch today? Daal Chawal. Toovar Dal also known as pigeon peas and belongs to the family of legumes. It is rich in proteins and fibres.
I’m sure this would be loved by all Of you out there. This is my favourite lunch! my idea of comfort food on a stressful day! This brings warmth to everyone I think.
The garlic and spices add to the taste of it. Everybody’s staple diet across India in every house.

INGREDIENTS
- ½ cup toovar dal
- 2 cups water
- 3-4 Curry Leaves
- 1 Slit Green Chilly
- 1 tbsp oil
- 4 tbsp chopped tomato
- 4 tbsp chopped onion
- 3 cloves crushed garlic
- ¼ tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
- ½ tsp turmeric powder haldi
- A pinch of asafoetida (hing)
- Salt and chilli powder to taste
To put in a pressure cooker

METHOD
- Wash and soak the toovar dal in water for half an hour.
- Add the water to the toovar dal and cook in a pressure cooker till well cooked.
- Blend the Boiled toovar dal with a hand blender.
- In a non-stick vessel heat the oil, add the jeera, curry leaves, green chilly, garlic, jeera, turmeric powder, asafoetida, tomato, and onions. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes
- Add the toovar dal mixture, 1/2 Cup Water, salt and chilli powder to taste. Mix well. Cook for 2 minutes.
- Serve hot along with rice, roti and/or vegetable of your choice.
