YELLOW MOONG DAL UPMA

Moong dal upma is a popular South Indian breakfast dish made with Split Yellow moong dal and rawa. It is a nutritious and delicious dish that is easy to prepare. The moong dal adds on to the protein of the upma, while the semolina gives it a nice texture. This upma is flavored with mustard seeds, curry leaves, and green chilies, giving it a mild spiciness. YELLOW MOONG DAL UPMA Recipe|Renu dalal

INGREDIENTS

  • ¼ Cup Yellow moong Dal
  • ¼ Cup Rava
  • ½ Cup chopped tomato
  • ½ cup chopped onions
  • ¼ tsp hing
  • 4 curry leaves
  • ¼ tsp Mustard seeds
  • ¼ tsp ginger green chilly paste
  • 2 cups hot Water
  • 1 tsp Oil
  • Salt to taste

For garnish

  • 1 tbsp chopped coriander leaves

METHOD

  1. Soak moong Dal in water for 2 - 3 hours. Strain.
  2. In a mixer jar, coarsely grind moong dal.

How to proceed

  1. In a pan heat oil and sauté mustard seeds, hing and curry leaves.
  2. Add in ginger green chilly paste and chopped onions. Sauté for 30 seconds.
  3. Mix in tomatoes and salt to taste.
  4. Add in rawa and sauté for 30-40 seconds.
  5. Mix in yellow moong Dal and roast for 30 seconds. Keep mixing well.
  6. Add in hot water and cook for 2 minutes. Keep stirring well.

To serve

  1. Serve immediately and garnish with chopped coriander.
